One BIG Easter Weekend Preparation

It wouldn't be Easter without some good ol' egg dying!
And dye pouring! YIKES!
We had a wonderful time!
Lucas had an egg hunt at school too. I was able to go help hide 200+ eggs for 16 kindergartners in his class. It took about 5 minutes for them to clean up all the eggs. Very impressive...piranhas! :)
Directions.
They are off!
Ella again. :)
Lucas and his golden egg!
Don't worry...I have many, many, many more photos of the weekend.

how I narrowly avoided poisoning my child...and a giveaway!

How's that for a title?

What you may not realize based on B-Ro's sweet and innocent looking face is that he's actually a mischievous stinkerbug seemingly bent on putting his life in jeopardy on a daily basis. Glass shards in his mouth, fingers in the light socket, playing in the toilet - the whole bit.

Who? Me?

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAsaKjcL-4-qLTg-KMKUa7OEZWQW8bUjumptdEToQx1K8OZxVfiRPnxiYMSriE234xnASeCMisyzJEhs3DS7SVl0Sn-_4Ecv-L6KfJ5l8AFmx0zM5JD8oLDBBRxTruCrvSb-C5FnNPOcg/s400/1.jpg

Yes, you. Stinkerbug.

I'm sure that part of our problem is that Sarah has always been an ultra-cautious baby/toddler/girl. Our house in Colorado had three flights of stairs and only two sets had baby gates at the top - and those weren't added until she could walk. She was just cautious and we got spoiled. And lazy.

Enter B-Ro. I'll spare the drama of all the ways he's made my heart stop and just recount a particular time. The time I like to call "how I narrowly avoided poisoning my child."

It was a typical Saturday morning at our house a couple of months ago. Pancakes had been mixed, flipped, eaten, and cleared and the fam was scattered around the house each doing their own thing. I was perched right here at my computer catching up on blogs; getting lost in the photographs and words of other women. I knew there was a child in the kitchen with me because I could hear one bumbling around but for some reason I thought it was Sarah. Sarah = little or no attention (see above). So I ignored the present child who was fairly quiet and not needing of me in that moment. Don't mess with a good thing, right?

Um, wrong. After several minutes (5? 7? 36?) I heard a noise that didn't sound quite like Pi'bears. Slurping maybe? Yes. With a little sputtering mixed in for good measure. When I whipped my head around I found B-Ro, soaking wet, sipping happily from a now near-empty bottle of kitchen cleaner. Yes. I know. Believe me, I know. The particular bottle he had found had been dropped the previous week so it was missing the spray action part...leaving only a vertical tube, just perfect for a baby who does a mighty fine job of drinking out of a straw. My immediate reaction as I scooped him up was panic. But panic was quickly replaced by relief and gratitude. For what? My friend
Janelle and her company Shaklee.

Janelle has been partnered with Shaklee for over a year now and when Ephraim was born last year she sent the most thoughtful and useful baby gift - a starter pack of their
organic, non-toxic cleaning concentrate. THAT, my friends, is what Ephraim was drinking that morning. And THAT is why I had no worries (and a really clean kitchen!). So without sounding anymore like an infomercial than I already might let me just end with these: 1. I love this cleaner 2. I wouldn't just say that 3. Brent added cabinet locks that very night.

Janelle emailed last week and said she'd love to do a giveaway on the blog so here's your chance to grab some of your own organic, non-toxic, won't-poison-your-baby-or-your-dog-or-your-husband cleaner. The starter pack that Janelle's reading to ship your way if your name is randomly selected from the pool of comments tomorrow includes:

- 1 Bottle of Basic H2 Concentrate (Makes 48 Gallons of All Purpose Cleaner)
- 3 Spray Bottles
- 1 Micro Fiber Cloth for Glass
- 5 Basic H2 Samples to Share
- Some extra stuff too!

So comment away! If you feel like confessing your own motherly inadequacies, even better! ;)

I'll let
random.org choose a winner tomorrow!

Pets Need Healthy Homes Too!

Information from Dr. Stephan Chaney
Sent December 10, 2008

Perhaps you've heard about some of the toxic chemicals
in our homes. Things like butyl cellusolve, sulfamic
acid, formaldehyde and phenol in household products
like detergents, floor & furniture polish and various
home cleaning products.

Then there are the fire retardant chemicals such as
polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in our rugs,
upholstery and draperies. There are phthalates added
to plastic toys to make them more soft and malleable.
The list goes on and on.

The first thing that comes to mind is protecting
ourselves and our children from these toxic chemicals -
but what about our pets?

A Washington D.C.-based environmental group called the
Environmental Working Group (EWG) recently took blood
and urine samples from 20 dogs and 37 cats in the
Virginia suburbs of Washington D.D. and analyzed them
for 70 industrial chemicals and pollutants. The
chemicals tested included heavy metals, fire
retardants, stain removers and plastic softeners -
chemicals that have been implicated in cancers, thyroid
problems, neurological problems and other disorders.

They found high levels of these toxic chemicals in
almost every pet tested - often at 5 to 23-fold higher
levels than found in humans. They found more than a
dozen endocrine toxins in these animals, which may
explain the increasing frequency thyroid disorders in
cats.

If you do have children just think of these pets as the
canary in the coal mine. The pets in this study serve
as an early warning system alerting us to just how
toxic our homes have become.

So what can you do? Some things are hard to change.
You?re probably not going to rip up all your carpet,
take down your drapes and throw out all of your
upholstered furniture.

But you can change your cleaning products to Shaklee?s
non-toxic, non-polluting Get Clean products. Your pets
will thank you; your children will thank you; and the
environment will thank you.

A Friends Story

Here's a vitamin story from a new Shaklee Business Partner of mine, Lisa Brake...

I, too, was a vitamin skeptic. Then I started on the Vitalizer and immediately noticed a huge improvement in my hair, skin, and energy levels. My 9-year-old is on the Vita-Lea Ocean Wonders and he hasn't been sick nearly as much as he was last year. His attendance at school is definitely up this year! I'm also impressed with the fact that Shaklee supplements are backed up with scientific research that suggests people who take Shaklee supplements long term have fewer health problems and diseases. I'm sold for life.

Thanks Lisa, we appreciate your comment and are so excited to have you on our team!

Vitamin Debate Continues...

As I stated below in my last post, I was a vitamin skeptic for sure. It's hard not to be when you hear conflicting reports everyday in the media.

However, there is an answer...The Landmark Study done by Shaklee over a 20 year period of time. This was the first ever study done on vitamin usage on this scale and time line. The study focused on the dietary supplement usage patterns, health, and nutritional status of long-term multiple dietary supplement users (Shaklee) and makes comparisons to nonusers and multivitamin supplement users.

The results? Mind blowing! Shaklee vitamin users out scored the other two categories by light years... Click here to learn more

Information from Dr. Stephen G. Chaney, PhD

Sent December 2, 2008

The Landmark study has been out for a year now and the
insights that it provided are more important today than
they were the day it was released.

We are increasingly being bombarded by media reports
telling us that vitamins don't have any effect on
reducing the risk of heart disease and cancer and may
even do us harm. Unfortunately, many doctors are being
influenced by the same media reports and are telling
their patients to avoid vitamin supplements.

For example, there was a report in the August 20, 2008
Journal of the American Medical Association that B
vitamins alone did not reduce heart attack risk in
patients with heart disease. Similarly, it was
announced at last month's American Heart Association
meeting that neither vitamin E nor vitamin C by
themselves significantly reduced rates of heart attack,
stroke or heart-related deaths.

The problem is that almost all of these studies have
been done with individual vitamins in high doses as if
they were some sort of "magic bullet" rather than
asking whether they are an appropriate part of a
holistic approach to supplementation.

In contrast, the Landmark study showed that people
using Shaklee supplements for 20 years or more had a
2-3 fold decreased risk of coronary heart disease,
heart attack and stroke than people taking just a
multivitamin alone or nothing at all.

Why the difference in outcomes? The short answer is
that the Shaklee supplement users were taking a
holistic approach to supplementation. They weren't
just taking vitamin E, vitamin C or B vitamins alone.
They were taking all three of them plus other
antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, soy protein, calcium
& magnesium and other important heart-healthy
nutrients.

When you ask the right question you get a totally
different answer!

So the next time you hear that vitamins don't work and
could cause you harm, remember that those studies were
done with individual, high potency nutrients. You get
entirely different results when you use a holistic
combination of Shaklee supplements such as you find in
the Vitalizer Wellness Program.

Runny Noses and Your Kids!

Today, I realized that I've been neglecting this blog for the past month. I apologize. I think I got caught up in Halloween and before I knew it, Thanksgiving! What a wonderful time of year but busy one too. My family and I are finally settled after our move and expecting a child in February so exciting times are around the corner for sure.

Living in a new area has been fun and I love meeting new people and sharing Shaklee with them. I run into more moms than ever now that I have a three year old in preschool and boy do I see a lot of runny noses too!

Since it's cold season, I decided it was a good time to talk about RUNNY NOSES AND KIDS! Fall and Winter always bring on colds that cycle around from kids to mom and kids to dad and it goes around and around the house until Spring! Well, that's how it used to be in our home until I invested a little interest in trying Shaklee's vitamin line.

I was a vitamin skeptic for sure! I believed that we need vitamins and would go to the store now and again to stare at millions of bottles making millions of claims. I never really knew exactly what to look for or exactly what I was buying or exactly what was in the bottle. I would make my purchase and take them for a few weeks not noticing any difference. Finally, I would lose interest and a year later I would toss them out.

After learning a little about Shaklee...environmental record, belief in using only the highest quailty ingredients and their 83,000 control tests preformed annually I had to see for myself. I fell in love with the cleaners (Basic H2 ---> MAGIC CLEANER) so I ventured to try some other products and found myself flipping through the vitamin section of the catalog.

I decided that I would put my family on Shaklee vitamins for 30 -60 days and if I didn't notice a difference, I would send them back for my full refund. In January, started taking the Vitalizer! The Vitalizer is a vitamin pack all specially designed with specific delivery systems to release nutrients to specific parts of the body. My husband, started the Vita-Lea mulitvitamin and my 2 year old started Vita-Lea Ocean Wonders. Now, keep in mind, this was January 2008 and we had just survived a long Fall of being sick...one runny nose after another passed around from family member to family member. We were sick of being sick!

Within weeks, I noticed more energy and easier waking in the morning. The alarm would go off and I was up and out of bed not needing caffeine. I was shocked! Could it really be the vitamins? My husband and son didn't tell me of any big Earth shattering changes but neither of them had been sniffling with runny noses...again, could it be the vitamins? It was too soon to be sure so we continued taking them daily. My skin cleared up on my dry cracked hands and I felt great! We moved from January to February to March...April...May...and not a nasty runny nose to be had!

We had made it through the entire winter without a cold! By this time, we were all sold on the vitamins and were not about to give them up!

My son, Lucas who is now 3 years old, was sick only one time in the past year. He came down with Pink Eye over the 4th of July but not a cold...not one. I have to admit, colds tried their hardest to get us. Some mornings we would wake up with a little tickle in the back of our throats or a clear drippy nose would pop out of nowhere but we fought back. We added Defend and Resist to our vitamin collection and started taking those and extra vitamin C at the first sign of a cold. I would increase everyone's intake and spread out the chewable vitamin C throughout the day. Each time, we beat the cold and the only thing we had to deal with was a day or so with CLEAR runny noses and none of that nasty yellow or green nasty noses. It was wonderful!

I recommend Shaklee vitamins to everyone! They are clinically proven and you will notice a difference. The investment in health far out ways the unpleasant investment in medicine, prescriptions and doctors visits. Having a healthy family and home has meant more than the world to me and I'm so proud to say that I finally found a way to get rid of those passed around nasty noses! Shaklee vitamins are worth every cent and will definitely change your life!

Up and Running...

I'm back with a new name!

Welcome!
